At 6:45 AM I was at the Old Thresher grounds to help with the Fellowship Cup gate program.  Now, I did that yesterday and one of my co-workers (who is normally a really mellow guy) just about punched out the head of the Lion's Club from New London.  The Lion's Club guy got right in Gene's face and was screaming at him that we didn't know what we were doing and that his people could part where they wanted to and we just didn't know better.  Anyway, it got loud and Gene told him to get out of his face or he would make him.  In a way it was funny, but it really wasn't.  The guy was being a jerk!  So, I stepped out of the booth and started talking to the Lion's Club guy, trying to give Gene a chance to cool down.  The Lion's Club guy started in on me…(some people are really stupid!) but…alas, I kept my cool and asked him if all Lion's were as pleasant as he was to Rotarians or if it was just the day.  He did a double take and lowered his voice and complained to me about how dumb we were.  I told him to go talk to Lennis, that perhaps Lennis could assist him and then Lennis could tell our office what we were doing wrong so that we didn't encounter the same situation from then on.  All in all, the guy cooled down, I think he still thought we were losers but that he wasn't going to win the war so off he went.  Poor Gene, he was still red in the face 20 minutes later.  He so desperately wanted to punch the guy out!

So, this morning I was working the "exit" gate, where cars weren't supposed to come in, just exit.  Great big sign saying Exit ONLY was facing the street.  We did let the service vehicles come in and the teams of horses after they had taken a load of dirty hay to the field to spread, but, that was all that was to come in.

This "lady" came driving in, I stepped in the center of the drive and put my hand up and told her to stop, that this was an exit only.  She just kept coming until her car hit me and I jumped out of the way.  I said, "this is an exit only gate."  She told me "get out of my way, I'm not waiting in any line," and drove right on.  Had I not gotten out of the way this delightfully pleasant person (read between the lines there) would have literally run me over!  What a crazy person.  No one should be THAT desperate to get into the grounds, heck, it has been the same for 50 years, a few minutes wouldn't change much.

Other than that, the people I dealt with were delightful, funny and nice.  There always has to be one!

Tonight I usher for Rotary, Tomorrow we are off to DM in the early hours and then Saturday and Sunday I am back at the gates.  Erica was short of help so I told her to put me where she needed me the most.  For all she has done for me over the years I sure as the world wouldn't leave her short!

I had a chance to visit with Bob and Arleen and with Allen and Joanne in the Antique building.  Allen is the guy that is at most of the auctions I go to that I like so much.  He has taught me a great deal.  He also pays too much sometimes so I jab him in the ribs and tell him to stop.  It's kind of our humor and yet it works.  His wife thanked me today. so funny!  Bob and Arleen are from here and are also auction people that I really enjoy.  Bob is also on the board of the Fellowship Cup.  They seemed to be doing well with buyers, hope they make loads of money!

Today is the first day of the annual Old Thresher Reunion.  We went to the square to see if the typical stuff was there again this year and actually saw something new!  Well, perhaps not new, but I hadn't noticed it before, and it reminded me of my daughter and her talents for making neat things!

There was a booth that was selling sea salts with fragrance (like I get from my daughter) for 2 for $15.  Since there was lilac that actually smells like lilac I had to get some.  Now I just need to remember to tell my oldest daughter that that would make a really cool Christmas gift! (Hint).  The white linen or whatever she usually gives me is wonderful too (another hint).  I love that stuff!!

It will be interesting to see how many people go to the grounds today, I will be working the gate ticket booth from 3 - 6:30 so would assume that I'll get a feel for the turn out.  Tomorrow is from 7 - 11 AM and then working with the Rotary on ushering at the show tomorrow night.

Friday is off to Des Moines to get utilities going in our new office.  We got the office furniture yesterday, they will be delivering and setting up on the 5th.  I called to get a quote to put and ad in the Register for help wanted, good grief!  It's nearly $1000!!!!!!  Gotta come up with an alternative, like maybe the website, gotta be cheaper than that…Monster here I come!

This Do-it-Yourself technology of voice message broadcasting is called Vontoo.  The new strategy for contacting people that want to be contacted without going through the nightmare of blast faxing or emailing.  This system places a call to a predetermined list of people.  It is cheaper than standard snail mail and more efficient than email.  It is the new way to market you product.

It sends all your voice messages within minutes, you can specify a time frame for voice broadcasting and use the pre-recorded messages and schedule the calls far in advance, you don't even have to be at  your phone!

You record any message, provide a prompt to accept the call or be called back later, specify different messages for answering machines or voicemail upload pre-recorded files and create unique intro and exit messages.  This is all designed to capture the attention of the people you are trying to reach.  And it is a real voice, not a cold email message.

The other advantage that sticks out is that it ensures compliance with national and local Do=Not=Call regulation.  You won't anger people with calls they don't want!

It is a great way to get people to check out your web page, tell them about it on  you message and watch your views go up.

Using Vontoo, motivational speaker and corporate trainer, Rick Itzkowich, uses the program to send motivational phone calls called QuoteActionsSM to his clients.  A subscription based service QyoteActionsSM sends an automated daily pone call to clients’ mobile, business or home telephones.  During each call there is a message using a memorable quote and then provides the client with a related motivational action.

Using this message service is far more personal than an email and more likely to stick in the mind of the client.  The clients are so impressed with the program that they have agreed to pay $10 a month to cover the costs of the calls.  This not only proves that it works; it also proves that the clients not only want the calls but will accept them making the marketing program successful.

There is a company that's motto is “We´re Never Sold Out.” which is just what I want to know when it comes to getting tickets to that game that everyone says you can't get into, you're too late, or they are sold out!

Tickets of America has 15 years of providing tickets for those events that no one else can get!  Why would anyone go elsewhere when you KNOW you can get them here?

Now I am a Bears fan, GO BEARS, and know that tickets are hard to come by for them.  When I know that I will be able to make a game you can be assured that I will contact Tickets of America to get in to see the BEARS!

Not only that, but they can get you tickets for any event you want to go to, not just sporting events.  Want a ticket to the play, contact Tickets of America.  What if there is a concert that you want to go to?  Even if shows are sold out, Tickets of America will make sure you don't miss out. We have connections to  already sold tickets that average concert goers do not have.  Now that, folks, tells you just how powerful it is to know where to go to get the tickets!

Call 1-888-383-1515 and line up your tickets for the event you want to see.  Why miss something when you don't have to?

We drove out to Oakland Mills today for lunch at Joyce's, of course we wanted lunch, but I wanted to see what flooding was occurring in the area from the Skunk River.  The river was raging through the dam area, there was some flooding on Joyce's side (north) but there were still campers on the south side of the river, although they had moved up the hill a little, they were still able to camp.

We walked out on the bridge over the dam and watched the water as it swept swiftly, almost violently, on it's way.  I had never though of white caps on a river, particularly one that is as small as the Skunk usually is, but there they were, white caps on the river where it passed over the dam.  There were guys fishing off the dam, which I thought was probably a wasted effort, but then we saw a number of fish jumping in the water.  They were probably catfish since we saw some channel cat heads on the shore, they must have washed up from the flooded cleaning room.  Not a very pretty sight!

We drove over to the Waterworks side to see what that looked like….oh my, the road was under water, the barrier was down to about 12 inches from the ground with no signage attached.  Not a problem during the daylight hours, but if a camper pulled in at night thinking they could camp where they had for years for Old Thresher Reunion they could be in real trouble.  If they got down the road very far the current would most likely grab them and away they would go.  Not a pleasant thought.  The current is so strong that it would be most difficult, if possible at all, to get out of it once you were caught.

Although it was violent, it was also awesome to see.  Such power, such speed.  Too bad they aren't generating electricity with the dam any longer, they certainly would get a bunch now!

I couldn't help but think of our grandkids.  When they were here this summer their dad took them over the walk bridge to see the river.  Now, they weren't terribly impressed, it was water.  Now I can assure you their opinions would be a little different.  I can hear Jake asking if he could throw something in the river to watch it go!

Forgetting the camera at a time like that is really too bad, perhaps we will go back out later and I can get a shot of our normally docile little river at its peak of fury.

Oh my gosh, we went to an auction yesterday that was unbelievable.  This lady's estate was something you hear about but don't think you will ever see yourself.  She had two houses (one of them was sold yesterday with the stuff) and the other is to be done later, I guess.

The house was filled to the brim with boxes and stuff, only a pathway through for the placement of more stuff when she got it.  The auctioneers took months to go through all the stuff and get it ready for sale.  They had been selling some of the stuff at other auctions for months just to give them room to move around.
