I just wrote a piece for payperpost that made me smile.  Do you realize that the bikes with the seats that actually are comfortable to sit on (like we used to have) are now the rage?  They are called Beach Cruisers and are being used by Gen X'ers as well as blue hairs.  Yes, that type of bike I would ride, the ones with the narrow seat that rides up the crack of your butt have no appeal to me….none.  But, the bike like I used to ride EVERYWHERE would be neat to have again.

I'll have to have that discussion with Greg, maybe we will want to do that, then again, maybe it will just be me LOL

I wasn't even sure what beach cruisers were until I read the website, then I realized they are bikes just like I used to ride, and my brother used to ride.  Shoot, they were so neat!  His even had a 3 speed, but I didn't need or want that, I just wanted a really cool bike, and I got it.

Then when the girls needed bikes, they got those that would also be considered beach cruisers (they didn't know they would once again be a cool bike in the 2000's!)  The bikes got ridden all over town, to the pool, friends houses and everywhere else.

Now the bikes that we grew up with are coming back.  Why?  Well, they don't cost a fortune.  They have a seat that is comfortable to sit on, not going to make you wonder why in the world anyone would want to ride a bike with a seat that is so narrow that it is actually painful!  The tires are thicker so you don't encounter the problems that the narrow, speed tires cause and you get a more motorcycle quality ride.

According to the weather channel we will be getting between 3 and 5 inches of snow this afternoon and evening.  It looks like it is going to cover the entire state, more heavily in the north but the whole state will get some.  That means that we will be driving home in the snow…whee.

TMC, which owns the hotel we stay at, is laying off approximately 150 people this week.  It will primarily be the trucking end that takes the hit, but the maintenance man at the hotel has been let go and John is not sure who else is on the hit list.  Apparently they got in a little deeper than they thought reasonable in the debt line and are now trying to remedy the problem.  They are keeping some of the drivers that are new and letting some of the experienced, more expensive ones go.  I understand the financial logic, but it hurts.

The auction last night was successful in a couple of different areas.  I got some stuff to list, some rather neat stuff like Princess House glassware, and Greg got a lateral file cabinet in really good condition for $2!!  It is now in the office ready to be put to use.

I got an email today from Tom Englad from Daystar University in Kenya (Tom is in New Hampshire) saying they didn't have an opening in the business department at Daystar University that they had money to pay someone to fill.  They were impressed with Greg's information but no money.  Now, that is something that was started last MAY, it has taken the Kenyans that long to respond.  Tom actually went to the Vice Chancellor to get a response because the head of the department wasn't responding to Tom.  What a peach of a guy to stay on it that long, but to be honest, we had blown that one off a LONG time ago.  Just like Chacha, if you don't hear anything it's because they don't want to tell you bad news so they won't give you any.

Now we will wait to hear from the University in Cayman, the resume and information was sent earlier this week and we immediately received a response saying it was being passed on the the review committee.  That doesn't mean anything, but at least it is in process.

Trying to get enough listing done to clean up the items that are in the eBay room has proven to take more time than I had anticipated.  I ended up with 66 listings, hopefully they sell.  With the holiday season here it is hard to say whether they will or not, sometimes my season is great, other times it is really slow so we will have to wait and see.

I have all the Christmas gifts we have purchased so far wrapped and under the tree ready to go to AZ.  Greg and I are going to go through the malls this week since we don't have any other social engagements scheduled.  Next week will be busy, but other than the auction on Wed., should we decide to go, we have two nights free.

We had lunch in Missouri when we went down to get cigarettes and now neither of us are hungry.  Wouldn't you just know that I had started supper before we left, put the meat and veggies in the marinate for kabobs.  Not too sure what we are going to do with it since I doubt the stuff can be frozen….maybe a late supper??

LA weight loss has a procedure that is done with the benefit of making your stomach smaller so that the amount of food you eat will be reduced thereby you are filled up sooner, the food digests more slowly and the pounds drop off.

When you get the lapband adjustable surgery done you will have just small incisions that will allow the doctor to place the band around the top of your stomach making your stomach smaller.  They use a camera to see what they are doing and you are not left with huge tell tale scars from the surgery.

We must be in Southern Iowa…we are covered in ice.  The tree between our house and the dump next door just came down, fortunately it fell toward the dump house and on the sidewalk rather than toward our house or the road.  It's on the sidewalk primarily.  Yes, this is Iowa and winter.

I went back to bed this morning when I saw that it was freezing rain, figured that would be a good use of time LOL

When I came downstairs the first time I tried to turn on the TV with the remote, it didn't work, then I felt my hand was wet (after I had changed batteries).  I couldn't figure out how it could have gotten wet, but it was.  When I came down later Greg told me that it fell into his glass of water (which he couldn't do on purpose I can guarantee you) so he was drying it out with the hairdryer.  It did dry it out and now it works just fine.  Such a strange thing to have happen.

 

Can you believe it?  There are no sales this weekend, not even at Smith's.  Darn.  Oh well, it means that I will get the things I already have listed.  I have some lovely things in the eBay room that need to be listed so today will be the day.  I also have some other projects that should be completed which means today will be busy regardless of the fact that there won't be any new purchases acquired.

We are supposed to get some freezing rain today or tomorrow, but it hasn't begun yet and maybe we will miss it here but DM is supposed to be blessed.  Great.
