The 4th of July in a Small Community

July 4, 2007 Blog, Family patwatson

It’s the 4th of July in our small community in the Midwest.  The celebration will begin with a parade at 3, activities at the Old Thresher’s Grounds at 4 with train and trolly rides for those that want to take a step back in time.  Later this evening there will be a concert at the grounds followed up by a very nice display of fireworks.

Our kids came home to be here for the celebration, now, coming from AZ to IA to must make a small town celebration worth the effort!

Not all communities begin the 4th with a Presidential candidate visiting their community, but that happened here with Obama making a stop to meet and greet on the 3rd.  Over 150 people showed up to hear what he had to say and have the opportunity to meet him.

He probably came here because our former Governor lives here, was a candidate himself for awhile, and after withdrawing he threw his support to Hilary Clinton (go figure).

With that being said, the 4th is a wonderful time to spend with family and friends so this afternoon we will have approximately 30 people at our house for a cook out.  It will be wonderful…hope the rain holds off!
