Conference in STL

It has been an interesting time in St. Louis.  The informational marketing seminars are informative, stimulating and long.  Yesterday was all Bill Glazner, today there were an array of speakers which made the day go much more quickly and probably more interesting.  Although, the information gleaned from Bill Glazner is probably very useful and honest.  He stresses that if you have an idea, you should move on it, not think it to death.  Probably good advice.

We had a talk from Dan Kennedy today which was fun.  He's a funny guy that makes lots of money with his information marketing and doesn't even have email!  I met his administrative assistant while out having a cigarette and we got to visiting.  She (Vicky Townsed) lives in Scottsdale and works 11 minutes from her home in Phoenix.  When I asked for her card she said she doesn't have one because Dan never got any printed up for her or for him.  I said ok, what about email?  She said, nope, fax.  We don't have email.  Good grief, how can they put on a seminar on marketing and not even use the most current form of communication themselves?  Well, whatever he is doing it works, he's making lots and lots of money.

The hotel we are staying at is really not one that I would recommend to anyone that wants a nice place to stay without breaking the family vault.  It's expensive, the rooms are small, it has been so cold in the meeting rooms that many of us are wearing out winter coats, the guest rooms have finally gotten so the heat works.  It's an old hotel with a 2 pipe system (hotel people know what that is) and it just isn't effective.  Now, I mean the meeting room has been so cold that your nose runs and yet you are supposed to listen, learn and be alert.  Shoot, it's too cold for that.

I just never have understood why conference organizers feel like they have to pick the most expensive hotel to hold their sessions.  Not that I think a limited service could or should be the location, but how about someplace in the range of $100 a night?  This just seems crazy to me to spend $159 for something that is less than satisfactory as far accommodations are concerned.  I know, gripe, gripe, gripe.  But, I believe I would get more out of the sessions if I weren't freezing during them!
