Crazy People

At 6:45 AM I was at the Old Thresher grounds to help with the Fellowship Cup gate program.  Now, I did that yesterday and one of my co-workers (who is normally a really mellow guy) just about punched out the head of the Lion's Club from New London.  The Lion's Club guy got right in Gene's face and was screaming at him that we didn't know what we were doing and that his people could part where they wanted to and we just didn't know better.  Anyway, it got loud and Gene told him to get out of his face or he would make him.  In a way it was funny, but it really wasn't.  The guy was being a jerk!  So, I stepped out of the booth and started talking to the Lion's Club guy, trying to give Gene a chance to cool down.  The Lion's Club guy started in on me…(some people are really stupid!) but…alas, I kept my cool and asked him if all Lion's were as pleasant as he was to Rotarians or if it was just the day.  He did a double take and lowered his voice and complained to me about how dumb we were.  I told him to go talk to Lennis, that perhaps Lennis could assist him and then Lennis could tell our office what we were doing wrong so that we didn't encounter the same situation from then on.  All in all, the guy cooled down, I think he still thought we were losers but that he wasn't going to win the war so off he went.  Poor Gene, he was still red in the face 20 minutes later.  He so desperately wanted to punch the guy out!

So, this morning I was working the "exit" gate, where cars weren't supposed to come in, just exit.  Great big sign saying Exit ONLY was facing the street.  We did let the service vehicles come in and the teams of horses after they had taken a load of dirty hay to the field to spread, but, that was all that was to come in.

This "lady" came driving in, I stepped in the center of the drive and put my hand up and told her to stop, that this was an exit only.  She just kept coming until her car hit me and I jumped out of the way.  I said, "this is an exit only gate."  She told me "get out of my way, I'm not waiting in any line," and drove right on.  Had I not gotten out of the way this delightfully pleasant person (read between the lines there) would have literally run me over!  What a crazy person.  No one should be THAT desperate to get into the grounds, heck, it has been the same for 50 years, a few minutes wouldn't change much.

Other than that, the people I dealt with were delightful, funny and nice.  There always has to be one!

Tonight I usher for Rotary, Tomorrow we are off to DM in the early hours and then Saturday and Sunday I am back at the gates.  Erica was short of help so I told her to put me where she needed me the most.  For all she has done for me over the years I sure as the world wouldn't leave her short!

I had a chance to visit with Bob and Arleen and with Allen and Joanne in the Antique building.  Allen is the guy that is at most of the auctions I go to that I like so much.  He has taught me a great deal.  He also pays too much sometimes so I jab him in the ribs and tell him to stop.  It's kind of our humor and yet it works.  His wife thanked me today. so funny!  Bob and Arleen are from here and are also auction people that I really enjoy.  Bob is also on the board of the Fellowship Cup.  They seemed to be doing well with buyers, hope they make loads of money!
