It's Auction Season in Iowa
Hard as it is to find the time to do everything we want to do, it is always fun to take a break from the normal day and go to an auction. Estate auction, moving auciton, going out of business auctions all have their own type of products that may be fun to go to to "get a bargin."
In Iowa the season for most auctions is from March through October. March starts with just a few outside auctions, then in April the number increases and by June there are auctions numerous times a week. Some of these are inside but the majority are outside in the wonderful weather…unless it rains and then it isn't such a great day for a sale! Occassionally the auction will be cancelled if it's raining but sometimes they just forge ahead and have it.
There are furniture items, glassware, linens, tools, equipment, sometimes cars (which can be purchased, normally, at a really good price…but of course there is no warrenty), and anything else that you can imagine that it takes to have a home or a business.
People drive for miles to come to an auction. Some are collectors, some are used furniture dealers, some are eBayer's and some are friends and family of the people for whom that sale is being held. You will meet new people, learn the terminology and go home wiht some treasures you just couldn't live without.
Other areas of the country have auctions, but the southwest, such as Arizona, seem to be shy in auctions. Such a shame, they are so much fun and the opportunity for networking is so good that you would think everyplace would support the business of auctioneering!
Check your local newspapers, go on line or look for the ads in the weekly advertising flyers and go have a day at the auction. Once you do you will probalby go back often.
