Creating a hit website is akin to making a good movie, not an easy task it takes a little bit of skill, some luck and a lot of hard work. A webmaster is like a Hollywood movie director trying his best to conjure up some magic from the mediocre, the best have the ability to hold a visitors attention for a span long enough to convey the message of the site. The goal is create an affordable web design that looks great at the same time.

This may sound like a rather daunting task, with a lot of research, time, and energy involved, but actually, a few tweaks to an already good quality site can make all the difference when it comes to grabbing someone's attention. For example, one of the most common and effective ways to snag someone's attention right off the bat is to change the font size of your headline in your ecommerce web site design.  Make your main headline short and sweet, in a very bold, quite large font.  If you have more to say in your headline than can fit in five or six words, then create a main attention-grabbing headline, and then create a sub-headline that is a bit smaller, and that fills the reader in on the rest of what you'd like to say in your content's title.

Since the days of the printing press, writers and editors has been playing around with the different type of fonts and sizes and see how they interact with readers. Although the essence of it sounds simple, like increasing the font size or changing the typography, it is not a mere changing of font size from say 18pt to 48pt making all the difference, there are more intricate things involve.

- Use fonts that are appropriate to the message you are trying to put across. Don't super-size fonts unnecessarily. Use fonts that go well with the message a 10% sale advert should not have a size 60 font headline. People don't like to be bullied into seeing something so be careful.

- Proportion your font size of your headline to the approximately the right size of your content fonts. As a rule of the thumb, generally increase of the headline to an extra 6 points as compared to the content font size. So lets say for a content font size of 10 the headline should be a font size of 16.

- Consistency in work is important, this also holds true to the sizing of fonts in a web page. Make sure that any changes in size are consistent in the whole document to lend a feeling of uniformity to the whole page. Difference in font sizes throughout the document can be used as an indicator of the level of importance of the content. If possible decide beforehand the type of look and feel you want for your site and blend it into the design of the website.

Other than font size, playing around with the type and style of the letterings will also help to capture the interest of visitors to your site. Some other factors that may be considered;

- font family - there are many different styles of fonts (or letterings), using a different lettering to emphasize certain words will often be able to focus attention on those words.

- color - hot colors tend to attract the most attention.  This means reds, oranges, and yellows.  The one that works best for your website will depend on your page's background color.  If you have a white background, yellow may not be very visible, but red might make a great statement.

- style - the style of the font can also be adjusted to suit the text of your webpage, bolding or italicizing words will make them stand out in a crowd of words.

It is very important to remember the one very important lesson when it comes to custom web design, visitors are more often than not, put off by over-flashy designs with wide varieties of contrast of colors and so on. So keeping it simple and professional may be the best way to achieving a professional looking web site after all.
