The Ambassador from Kenya

We were pleased to host the Ambassador from Kenya to the USA and his wife at our home on Tuesday night.  They were in Mt. Pleasant as part of the tour Senator Grassley hosts every other year to Iowa.  It was 8 years ago that the last group came to MP.  We hosted a representative from Japan at that time.

The opportunity to meet Ambassador Ogego and his beautiful (and very funny) wife Rose was delightful.  They brought coffee, tea and a beautiful purse for a gift and believe me, the coffee is fabulous!  The purse is so pretty, I moved my stuff over right away!!

We gave them vegetable ivory gifts.  Rose looked absolutely stunning in the orange necklace, bracelet and earrings.  Just beautiful!!  We gave the Ambassador an elephant sculpture.  The look on his face when I gave it to him was priceless….ivory?  To the Ambassador of the country that is trying to stop the slaughter of elephants??  So, when I explained that it was vegetable ivory from the Tagua nut of the Tagua palm he really checked it over and then said it was beautiful.  Didn't mean to scare the poor guy, but glad that he was impressed with the ivory once he knew it wasn't elephant.

I went to the hotel yesterday to drop off their phone bill.  Told them that I had made the change and they needed to get it in their name or not have long distance service as of tomorrow.  Hope they get it taken care of, but guess I really don't care as long as the bill isn't coming here anymore.  I was shocked and disturbed with the appearance of the front desk clerk.  Instead of in a uniform she was in yellow Capri’s and a sleeveless shirt and flip flops!!  Tattoos up and down the arms and legs.  Oh my goodness, I couldn’t believe it.  She said that no one wears uniforms anymore and everyone, including housekeepers, are wearing flip flops.  So glad we don't have the insurance on that place anymore!!  What an invitation to disaster.  But, since we don't own it anymore I guess I don't care.
