Why Does the Atlanta Airport Freak Me Out???
I'll tell you what, I fly often, I have been to a number of airports, run into some rather strange situations but NEVER has an airport freaked me out the way the Atlanta airport does! I try desperately to avoid it and when it is impossible (or just not worth spending more hours at another airport to avoid Atlanta) then something always pops up to make me wonder why the airport munchkins don't like me!
This time, I booked our tickets on Delta because the other airlines had such long lay overs at any of the other airports and this was just an hour and a half in Cinncinati and and hour and a half in Atlanta. Now, what could possibly mess that up? Guess what! A storm hit Cinncinati when we were on the runway ready to leave which meant we couldn't depart on time, had to wait for the storm to pass. That, of course, made us miss our connection in Atlanta to Ecuador.
So, here we are in Atlanta for the night. I tried to find the hotel listings near the baggage claim while my husband stood in line at Delta ticketing to get our tickets changed to tomorrow. I gave up, the directions to baggage claim were not clear, I walked many miles and finally said screw it, I'll go back to Greg and have him help me with that. Of course, the helpless female is hardly a role I treasure, but sometimes a gal has to admit that she needs to go to her husband and admit failure…this was one of those time.
So, we got our tickets changed, called Ramada 800 number to book a room for the night, figuring it couldn't be all that bad. We used to be a Ramada and were proud of the name, of course that was back in the days when Steve Belmonte was the President and the chain actually had pride and dignity. We dropped the Ramada franchise at the first opportunity and were glad we did! Sure isn't the same now!! The chain is filled with less than wonderful properties, the prime example of that is the hotel we booked in Atlanta. To say it is a POS is being positive.
So, we walked across the street to the Best Western and asked if they had rooms available and internet, they did. It didn't stink and the rooms are nicer! The Ramada actually cancelled our reservation and the front desk gal said she "understood." How awful would that be? Work at a hotel and know it's crappy and have to let people walk out the door with the knowledge that the staff of the hotel even thinks it's awful!
There was a definate stink in the lobby, followed by the smell of something even stronger in the room and no internet. That follows the fact that we spent over an hour and a half waiting for the Ramada van to pick us up at the airport. Three calls to the hotel resulted in our being told to look for the Hyatt name on the van along with the Ramada name. Well, guess what, the Ramada name is not on the van at all! Now we know why!
Anyway, welcome to the Atlanta airport and all it's glory. Geez, it really dislikes me for some reason! Can't wait for tomorrow to be off to our new and exciting adventure in Ecuador. It should be wonderful!
